I Am An Artist 1 explores Henry's identity as an artist and the use of LEGO elements as an artistic medium.  Because LEGO elements are such an unusual medium, their use can come with skepticism.  Using this medium led Henry to initially refrain from calling himself an artist or sharing his work.  Through years of artistic self-discovery, now Henry proudly tells the world that “I am an artist!” and also accepts himself as one.  This mirrored duality is represented by the color inversion in the sculpture’s two towers, capturing this compelling declaration.

This first version of the work stands just 13” tall, and acts as a prototype for larger temporary versions of the sculpture.
