I Am An Artist 2 explores the identity of Henry as an artist and the use of LEGO elements as an artistic medium.  Because LEGO elements are such an unusual medium, their use can come with skepticism.  Using this medium led the Henry to initially refrain from calling himself an artist or sharing his work.  Through years of artistic self discovery, now the Henry proudly tells the world that “I am an artist!” and also accepts himself as one.  This mirrored duality is represented by the color inversion seen through the sculpture, capturing this compelling declaration.

This second version of the work stands at 38” tall and was a temporary on-site instillation at Art Saint Louis in 2022.  Their Artistic Director Robin Hirsch-Steinhoff invited Henry to create this piece on-site to echo the smaller sculpture ‘I Am An Artist 1’ that Jurors Francesca Passanise and Terrell Carter selected for the Declaration exhibition.
